These water dragon lizards live under the bridge in the green belt at the end of our street. Some days they will sit still for hours sunning themselves on a rock. In the middle of summer on hot days they move a lot more. Not exactly frolicking but definitely active as it was nearly 35 today. So I worked from a photo as the prompt for Day 4 of the AJW challenge is “an animal”. I used watercolour, my lamy pen, and pitt pens in a Strathmore mixed media journal
As usual click on the image to see a larger version and I always love peoples comments.
The AJW Sketchbook challenge run by Palma of A Creative Journey proposes a daily prompt throughout January which is shared in the Artist Journal Workshop Facebook group
This is also prompt 44 off the EDM challenge list which reads draw an animal , a pet or from the zoo. The Every Day Matters drawing challenge has an active Facebook page.
Cute little fella!
Wish I was sunning myself on a rock somewhere – It is freezing here in the UK and has been so windy!!

Great drawing Sharon. Much easier to have an animal that will sit still for the drawing process.
Thanks for the compliments – the challenge is pushing me
Love this because reptiles are something we rarely see – and it’s a great sketch!
Tourists love these reptiles too- they range from being about 8 inches long to about 2 feet and sit up an look at you in a curious way.
Wonderful lizard and rocks. I like the double page too.
Thanks Maureen I am trying to get used to drawing across 2 page spreads but it feels very awkward
