Draw something green.

EDM drawing challenge 116 Draw something greenWell…
I am still trying to carve out time from a busy day to draw. This is EDM drawing challenge #116 Draw something green. This twig is from one of the many types of eucalyptus that are in the district. I am always fascinated by Aussie native flora as usually you can see the complimentary colour in them too. Click on the image above to see a larger photo.

I used coloured pencil, graphitint pencil, watercolour pencil and pitt pens.

The EDM list is good if you get stumped for ideas of what to draw. The prompt list also helps get past the impression that every drawing must be deep and meaningful to be worth doing. Such a list effectively says it is OK to draw in order to practice observation.

Thing is …  as much as I hate to admit it, I wont gain much by drawing once a week as drawing practice needs to be done a little more frequently at least every second day or so for it to be really effective. Drawing is like anything the you put in the more you get out of it. Now I just have to learn to take my own advice!

Grr … that regularity has not been happening. My excuse is that it is spring and I have been weeding!

Here is  the EDM challenge list . Scroll to see my efforts. The Every Day Matters drawing challenge has a flickr group and Facebook page.

When your drawing appeared my first thought was: Oh, the green is so exactly like eucalyptus – and the twig – like we get it in flower bouquets sometimes. I like the brownish-reddish rims.

  2. I have been very tardy too as other things take over. I guess we just have to keep trying :).

Yes Jules – to be honest for next year I am looking to reorganising some of the stuff I do and cutting back on some of the commitments I have as it is the only way to free up some time

You say you haven’t had as much time to practice as you would like, but I think this is wonderful! The green is such a lovely soft shade and the way you can capture the essence of something in a few lines is exactly what I would like to be able to do. It’s great!!

The colouring of your eucalyptus is perfect and just like the beautiful one I was admiring in the florist last week – I love it!

Thanks Andy – strange to think such things are in florist displays – the tree it comes from is as high as a house!
