EDM challenge drawing 132

I have been very remiss and not shared my drawings much lately. I am still drawing mundane everyday items as practice but not as often in January. Anyway here is everyday Matters drawing challenge 132 “draw a chain”. It sounds easy but is more of challenge than I thought it would be!

drawing of a chainI used watercolours, watercolour pencils, and pitt pens in a Strathmore  Mixed media sketchbook, which is nearly finished. There are a couple of pages left and it is full. It is the second I have filled this year.  I have decided to bind my own sketchbook and mix the type of papers in it so I have a variety of drawing surfaces. I have also decided to make it larger, I am not sure if this will be successful but I will find out as I use it.

If you are interested in this challenge here is  the EDM challenge list .

I can imagine it to have been very difficult! You have done a great job, Sharon. I always enjoy seeing your drawings 🙂

I is so good and real that I can hear the rattling of it. Or should it be made of silver then it is is a very fine silvery sound ….

  3. Sharon!
This offering was well worth waiting for! Your rendition of the chain is superb………how long did it take you to complete all the details, it is so precise.

Hi Maureen thanks for the compliment. I am scratching my head about the time it took – maybe 45 minutes or an hour. I did enjoy it.

Fabulous, Sharon. But now, just to test you a bit, try a fine jewellery chain. Should be a walk in the park for you – not something I want to take on though, LOL. Sorry, just teasing, I can’t think of anything else I would rather not draw than a fine chain unless it was under a microscope. Speaking of which, do any of your challenges call for something under a microscope? Many artists, especially textile artists it seems are using such imagery in their work these days. I guess it would help if you had a science background but even so … I might give it a try. I have a microscope that plugs into the computer so it should be fun. I’ll keep you posted. BTW if you want to edit this out please do.

Hi Chris your question made me think as I dont think any f the challenges do ask for someone to look down a microscope and draw what they see. Probably because the aim of these challenge is to make drawing everyday items accessible to all and not everyone would have a microscope. When I was kid I had a microscope and it was the first thing I did after learning to focus it!The micro world is certainly strange and wonderful.

  5. Nice spread across the page! :)! Great background Sharon, the colours and texture really accentuate the metal links and heavy feel of the chain.

LOL Jules this book is nearly full – it has taken me the whole book to move across the page and to be honest it still feels odd.

The chain looks so real feel I could pick it up. Great shading.
