EDM drawing challenge #100 Draw or Paint a Landscape

pencil swatch test  I purchased a set of Derwent graphitint pencils and the first thing I did was a colour swatch test in my journal. Derwent Graphitints are are a water soluble graphite pencil with just a smidgen of colour. If you add water them (as I did with the disk like patches on the left) the colour they produce is richer but they are proving to be ideal for the muted colours of the Australian bush.

The following weekend you would have found me on the path to Scrivener Dam which from that viewpoint you can clearly see Black Mountain Tower. Yes the name sounds ominous but it is really a quite mundane telecommunications tower. So it was the perfect opportunity to tackle EDM drawing challenge 100 – Draw or Paint a Landscape.

I always have mixed feeling when I do a drawing and then add text above, below or around it as often it interferes with the image – but then I tell myself it is journal for goodness sake and just not that important. I see people taking the whole drawing thing very seriously. I guess I feel it doesn’t have to be as really it the process of looking that I enjoy and for me makes the moment. What is actually recorded is often not important.

Anyway no need for rant. Life has been busy here and I have been scratching to find time for drawing and scratching even more to find time to blog about it! But here I am playing catch up. I will photograph a few more drawings I have done and share them over the next few days.

Love your new ‘crayons’. Your sketch is great too; thanks for letting us see a photo of the place too. I enjoy reading your ‘rants’ as they often hold a germ of truth that one can use in one’s own journaling life.

Thanks Juno I am actually a bit unsure if I should use this blog to rant/explore some of my ideas on drawing etc (it could sound pretentious) so your response is appreciated.

Hello Sharon, It is always nice for me to read your posts – learning new words, ha, or remember long-known ones. and have a peek of your drawings. All your blogs mean a lot to me.

  3. I’ve got those pencils – the full 24 set, but I daresay you’ll make better use of yours than I will of mine…

    Keep ranting! I enjoy listening.

This sketch is lovely, the splendid nature with a touch of man, from the tower. The color is interesting and for some reason to me, a little haunting. I too, enjoy your rants, and could picture your grin.

Thanks Marianne that is Canberra lot of greenery and gardens – That is only a 5 or 6 miles from the center of the city (11k)
