Everyday Matters Drawing Challenge 208

gargoyle drawingNumber 208 of the Everyday Matters drawing challenge suggests that you draw something out of place. Well this is definitely out of place. I live in Australia and we have very little in the way of grumpy looking Gargoyles as this is a European tradition but I do have a garden ornament that I love. I call him Maurice and he sits by our drive. I think he is grumpy today and hiding in the shade because he is having to endure a heat wave. It is reaching temperatures above the old century so his wings are a bit heavy and he is not pleased.

Anyway that is my story and here is me drawing it! I used Staedtler pigment liners.

You mean to say you actually went out in the heat to draw him? Sharon you amaze me. I am bawling my eyes out because our aircon blew up during the last horrible heatwave we had here, and you’re outside drawing!

It is a great drawing though, well done you. He doesn’t look happy in either the photograph or the drawing although he is in a cool-looking place with all that greenery. I love his eyebrows; very expressive.

Chris – I did it early in the morning – before the heat – its 38 here now as I write and there is no way I am going outside!

  2. Jo Britt says:

Great, you’ve captured his grumpiness exactly!
Currently 37 here in the south, on the way down from 39.

  3. Jules says:

He’s fab. You captured him perfectly. He actually looks cool tucked away with the ferns. I hope it cools down for you soon!

  4. Patsy says:

He is beautifully grumpy. You did a lovely job capturing his attitude.
I live in New Hampshire, USA and we have finally reached the temperature above freezing. Would love to send some cool air your way.

    • sharonb says:

Patsy I am frantically flapping my arms trying to wave some of the hot air your way – more than happy to do a swap if this works out but I have a feeling there are greater forces at stake. Keep warm and I will try and keep coll on another hot day. Thanks for your comment about my grumpy gargoyle.

  5. Juno says:

Your grumpy gargoyle looks great. Is that shading called ‘cross hatched shading’?

    • sharonb says:

Thanks Juno – it is sort of cross hatching – usually its more controlled I more of less cross hatch and do not worry about keeping it even

  6. Raena says:

Well done! I think I would have that expression if it were that hot outside too!
