Everyday Matters Drawing Challenge 21

EDM challenge 21Challenge prompt # 21 is “Draw something old, antique or vintage.”
This French antique decorative door knocker that is cast in the shape of ladies hand fits the topic so I decided to draw it.

It is cast iron and made in the early 19th century. I first saw door knockers like this in Paris but apparently they can be found all over Europe. This one is currently waiting for a striker plate to be found as eventually we will mount it on our front door. In the meanwhile it is paper weight!

Love your use of graphite – great range of tones. And a beautiful antique that will make a striking door knocker at your home.

  2. I found your wonderful site after Googling “hand door knockers”. Your work is beautiful! I actually have a question about how you finished your door knocker – I have a similar one without an estcutcheon or a striker plate. Since it seems that you started out with just the knocker as well, I wanted to ask you how you finished the area around the hinge and where you found a striker plate. Thanks so much!
