Back in January I wrote how Jerry was making a new violin. when he finished it I decided to sketch it (of course). This is the first sketch of the new violin in our house. This is also a EDM challenge sketch #17 which reads Draw a musical instrument
Then the following day I decided to make a page spread to celebrate that he had actually finished building it. I think it’s sort of magic how someone can make a musical instrument.
I am still working in my hand bound journal and some of the paper is smooth for writing but I wanted an interesting surface to sketch on as I wanted to capture a little more of the feel of the instrument. I tore up some old sheet music and used Gesso to glue it to the pages. I then used watercolour paints, inktense pencils, artist pitt pens, and colour pencils to draw the violin.
I thought I would share some of the process and the finished page spread. Click on the images to see larger versions.
If you want to hear it Jerry made a youtube video to share with some facebook mates. You can view and hear it below.
This morning before I go dashing out the door I would like to share with you my sketch from yesterday. It is another mundane topic but it is in the spirit of drawing every day things. I think I enjoy drawing food. Since to day is market day I will have some more to draw too!
This sketch was done in a Strathmore mixed media sketchbook which is 5.5 in x 8.5 in (14 x 21.6 cm) using artist pitt pens, Derwent watercolour pencils, watercolour paint, white charcoal pencil and lots of fun splotching about!

I found a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo feather on one of my morning walks. As I carried it home to draw I was wondering if there was a little sketching project about found objects. I walked up the hill to our home I realised most of Canberra is suburbs and probably the most interesting thing to find would be the odd dead shopping trolly but the idea may have some merit so this morning I am pondering…

I have a simple image today of three jugs which are drawn as a prompt for the facebook A sketch a Day challenge which for day 23 proposes that the group draws a jug. I was a bit pushed for time yesterday so this was a bit of rush.
