Seasons greetings

Hi all I want to wish my readers a safe an happy Holiday season and my best wishes for the New year. Thanks for reading and putting up with my irregular blog.

Apart from the Christmas chaos I live in I have found a little time to do some drawing and enjoying myself book binding. I will take some photos and share what I have been doing in the new year.  In the meanwhile here is a page spread of some of our tree decorations.

Every year when I decorate the tree I tell myself I will draw the decorations as many have stories associated with them. Many are hand made by friends, others are souvenirs that we have collected in our travels, others were purchased because we liked them. These hand painted are one of those sets purchased about 20 years ago.  I quietly admire them every time I take them from their box and hang them on the tree. To me I think the faces on them always look a little surprised as if they did not expect to ever be lifted out of storage and see the light of day again.

If you click on the image you can see a larger version. I used watercolour pencils, watercolours, Derwent inktense pencils and pitt pens. Last year I drew some of them too. You can see them here if you are interested

How lovely it is to re-capture the delights of our childhood, and every item that tells a story is really special. I love the naive style to these little characters!
Hope you are enjoying the holiday season and look forward to seeing more drawings !
    Best wishes

HI Barbara – thanks for the compliments I was aiming at a children’s story book type style. I am definitely going to be drawing more next year. Last year I managed some and but not enough so I am clearing the decks a little to make more time for it, as I really want to do it.
